Back in 2010, the then Coalition Government set up the Office of Tax Simplification (OTS) to investigate options for making the UK’s tax rules simpler. The OTS has acheived a lot in the last five years but there is still much to do. Next on the agenda for the OTS is a review of the options for aligning Income Tax (IT) and NICs.
I am pleased to announce that I have been appointed to the OTS Consultative Committee for this project. The 10-strong committee will assist with the direction of the project, suggesting avenenues to explore and providing practical insight. And we’ll be responsbile for reveiwng the report which the OTS will publish once they have finished their work.
This is a great opportunity to make our voices heard and I’ll be using this blog to keep our clients in the loop. If you have any thoughts on the closer alignment of IT and NICs please let me know.
Further information on the work of the OTS in this area can be found here.
